Sadhana kriya acts on a person’s ‘third eye’ or ‘Ajna Chakra’ (please see the section on ‘Basic Concepts of Yoga’). The third eye or the Ajna Chakra, situated in between eye-brows at the energy body level, is the seat of intuitive powers in humans. The range of intuitive human powers is vast, ranging from the commonly experienced ‘ESP’ (Extra Sensory Perception) to Clair-audience (listening to sounds over distance or time) or Clair-vision (vision of a phenomenon separated from the present by time or distance). Interestingly, though not well understood and looked with suspicion amongst scientific community, the scientists themselves are witness to their operation/existence as many of the great scientific breakthroughs have come to the scientists in dreams or as sudden burst of insight into the phenomenon being studied. These powers, though not normally experienced by us, are present in all human beings but they are in dormant form. The sadhana kriya helps to awaken these powers or potentialities.

In more correct words, the sadhana helps a person in awakening of antar-gyan or inner-knowledge which cannot be obtained by one’s five external senses of hearing, seeing, speech, touch and smell. These potentialities cannot also be obtained by conscious thinking but come to a person as a result of spiritual awakening. In ordinary sphere, a person whose third eye is awakened, witnesses immense growth of faculties of his brain such as intellect, memory, reasoning and wisdom (‘vivek’ or discretion) which helps him carry out his daily chores with greater skill. On spiritual plane, the state of awakening of ‘antar-gyan’ paves the way for perceiving the ultimate unity of the individual soul with every other soul in the universe, with all the animate and inanimate objects in the universe and also with the’Ultimate Soul’ or the ‘Param-atman’.
